Migraine Associated Dizziness

Migraine headaches affect 1 in 6 individuals in the United States. Though it is seen most often in reproductive age women, older individuals and men also experience it.

Though most often associated with headaches, migraines can manifest as dizziness in more than a quarter of individuals. The dizziness that manifests can vary in time, but is typically associated with sensitivity to noise and light. Migraine associated dizziness, like the headaches, often have triggers, which may include allergic triggers. Thus, we recommend that when diagnosed with dizziness associated with migraines, that the individual also consider allergy testing. This is because prophylactic treatment for migraines merely treats the disorder symptomatically but does not go to the root of the problem which is the trigger. Once the allergic triggers are identified, these can either be avoided or the individual can undergo desensitization therapy.
